West Side is the Best Side

My Year as a 7th Grade Desoto West Athlete

My name is Kaydence and I am a student athlete at Desoto West Middle School, and I play and run every sport. I like playing every sport because it keeps me active and not as bored during the school year. I challenge myself by playing multiple sports. Each sport teaches me something different, whether it’s endurance, teamwork, speed, or discipline. it has helped me grow not only as an athlete but also as a person, showing me how to stay focused and work hard even when things get difficult. I take pride in my dedication and my willingness to try new things, and I am always looking for ways to improve and become better.

During my year as a 7th grade Athlete I ran cross country, played volleyball, basketball, and ran track. I will soon be participating in the upcoming soccer season. My overall favorite sport is track because I like to run and I feel like I am very good at it. When I ran cross country, the weather was very hot. Even though it was hot I still push through. Cross country pushes me to keep going even when I’m tired, while volleyball and basketball help me build communication and trust with my teammates. track allows me to focus on my individual performance and constantly improve my times. Now, I’m getting ready to take on a new challenge by playing soccer, which will add even more skills to my experience as an athlete.

My first year running cross country in 7th grade was both challenging and exciting. At first, it was hard adjusting to the long distances and pushing myself to keep without stopping, but I didn’t give up. Each practice helped me build more endurance and confidence, even on days when I felt tired or wanted to quit. I learned how to pace myself, stay mentally strong, and keep a positive mindset during races.

My first year playing volleyball was really fun. Volleyball helped me communicate and make new friends. Volleyball was a little hard because you have to hit the ball a certain way and if you don’t hit it the right way it won’t go over the net. At the beginning of the season, we had to come and practice in the morning before school but now we have to practice after school because everybody couldn’t come before school. When I played volleyball I feel like we could of did better because we only won one game
