I’m Kennedi, a cheerleader at Desoto West Middle School. Enjoy as I share my accomplished goals as a Cheerleader here at West.
Tryouts were announced to start in April of my 6th grade year. I was very nervous to tryout but did it anyway. Once tryout day came I made sure I practiced and that I knew everything I needed to know. I messed up on some parts of the dance but kept my head up. I made the team and was so proud of myself. We had a certain amount of time to pay for the cheer stuff but in the meantime we had a pool party. We got to meet all of the old captains and got to bond with the new team. After the party, we had cheer camp where we learned more cheers.
Our first time we cheered in front of anyone was in September at the pep-rally of the first football game. I was so excited yet so nervous to cheer in front of my whole school. After school we ate and went to the game and cheered more. My favorite part about cheering is that i get to do it in front of many people i know and don’t know.
I love that I can help upcoming cheerleaders with cheers and dances that they will learn for their tryouts. I love that they want to do what we did and I’m glad our team inspires them.
Tryout practice and tryouts are the week of march 23rd-27th and the upcoming cheerleaders will find out if they made the team that same Saturday through coach Kidd’s Instagram. I’m very excited to tryout for captain and to see who will make the team. I think I will make captain because I can be loud and I can be a good leader.
